Romford
The layout is four years in the making and at present only represented on a 4ft by 2ft baseboard. Eventually, the diorama will be incorporated into 30ft by 10ft oval layout, once the loft is converted.
The current diorama is based around the main station area and is made up of the Up and Down Electrics and Mains, with the start of the branch line to Upminster. The track is from C&L and is a mixture of timber and concrete sleepers with both bullhead and flat-bottomed rail, as was present in the 1970s.
The main station building is scratch built, courtesy of my CAD design the Risborough & District Model Railway Club's laser cutter. My design was based upon historical records and a significant number of photographs, both my own and what I could find on the internet. The cornices are wooden molding from The Model Shop at Tower Bridge. The art deco lights at the front of the station are made from Biro pen shafts and are fitted with LED lights. The roof tiles are made of individually cut strips of standard printer paper. The hip tiles are card formed with a paper hole puncher. Signage is supplied from Sankey Scenics and Slaters raised lettering.
